Co-signing will not affect the loan in any major way. You still get entitled to the VA guaranty program, and lenders will still consider you as a low-risk borrower endorsed completely by the VA.
However, if you want to get a VA loan co-signed with an individual not related to you and is not a member of the military, this is also allowed but the VA will guaranty only the veteran/military member’s part or interest in the said property. This, however, is not supported by all lenders, so you have to find a lender that allows it if you want this kind of mixed loan setup. You may have to check out several different lenders first before you can find a lender who is willing to grant the said loan.
