Juan Orozco (Bogota, 1973) studied cinema and music at National University of Bogota (Colombia), where he was graduated as "Cinema and Television Director" in 1996, within the subject "Documentary". In 2002 he obtained an international master degree on "Creation and Design of Interactive Systems" (
MECAD- Media Center of Art & Design /
UAB- Autonomous University of Barcelona). Granted by MECAD he took part in an artistic residence at
KHM- Academy of Media Arts Cologne (2002-2003) . In order to develop the "
Behave Yourselves!" project, the Art and Media Science department of KHM gave him a fellow grant(2003-2004). Afterwards, and supported by the
Heinrich-Böll Foundation, he continued at KHM as guest student developing the project "Bodies without head. Heads without body" (2005 - 2007). Fruit of his theoretical activity in this area, coin and develops the concept of "Acenteredness", which continue expanding until now.
From 1996 to 2001 he taught as professor at
Externado University,
Javeriana University,
Central University and
High School of Art in Bogota in the fields of Video-art, New Technologies of the Image, Multimedia, Cinematographic Approach and Digital Expression. He has took part in the organization and management of events concerning arts and media in collaboration with the professors
Siegfried Zielinski and
Anthony Moore. From 2004 to 2006 he was assistant in the organization of the firsts three workshops integrated in the researching project
"Variantology. On Deep Time Relations of Sciences, Arts and Technologies", directed by Prof. Siegfried Zielinski. He took part also in the sessions and discussions of this event. Along with Prof. Anthony Moore, he worked in the management of the
"Nocturne" expanded seminars, organizing the concert "Lost & Found: Das Paradies" by the musicians FM Einheit and Andreas Hammer. As well as these occupations and his artistic projects, he has worked in post-production of video (editing, sound, effects, animation) and in the development of interactive systems (web, CD-Rom). He is the co-founder together with
Luis Negrón van Grieken of
"Telefante" collective, which one they have given multimedia concerts invited by festivals such
"Frischzelle"(Cologne, 2005), "Das Letzte Wort der Kunst" (Düsseldorf, 2006) or
"Moers Jazz Festival" (Moers, 2006), among others. They presented the project "Heinrich Heines-Sklavenschiff" (The Slave Boat) in Paris and Amsterdam (2007). Their most recent project is "Zoa. A multimedia improvisation on 'Jerusalem' by William Blake" (Düsseldorf, 2007). He lives and works in Berlin.
